    Chia seeds

    From Nancy Clark's blog:

I've never heard of them before. Has anyone tried them?

She says they could be an alternative to flax seeds.

I tried them in my smoothies and unfortunately had an allergic reaction to them. Broke out in hives all over my body. Wasn't positive it was the chia seeds, so waited a few weeks and tried it again. Yep, definitely the chia seeds. I liked them and they made the smoothie very filling and I wasn't hungry for hours. Extremely itchy but well satiated.

Love them. I put them in smoothies. Also, have made chocolate pudding with them and raw brownies.

I have a tablespoon or two in my cereal almost every morning. And it's almost warm enough to start making iskiate!

I just bought them the other day to add to my morning rice protein shakes.....good source of omega 3 and fiber.

I like to have texture in my shakes and so I add a scoop of ground flax and a scoop of chia.

It's a lot more expensive than ground flax - so I'll probably only buy it when its on sale.

I use them on the day of a ride - the old indian method where you just soak them in water for 30 minutes or so (til it forms a sludge) and drink it all. I like them. :-)
