    Freezer and ice cream issues

This is sort of cycling related, as my husband (who cycles A LOT) love his ice cream at night after long rides.

We live in a rental apartment and apparently the freezer is not performing well enough. Everything I put in there freezes all right (soup, spaghetti sauce, etc.) but his ice cream more often than not ends up melted after a day or two.

My understanding is that ice cream takes colder temperatures to freeze, is that right?

If so, and if we call the landlord about it, what's the hope of fixing this freezer? Is it possibly a quick fix?

Thanks for your help, I'm really tired of hearing him complain about his liquid "ice" cream.

You don't mention how old the unit is. Is this a recent problem? Is it turned to the right setting? Could the setting knob gotten bumped and now adjusted too warm?

Is all the food in there frosty and covered with ice crystals, I so it may be a leak of cold air outide the feezer. If this is the case be sure the rubber gasket/seal is clean and seals well. Also make sure there isn't an obstruction keeping the door slightly open. I stuffed my freezer too full with killer deals at the grocery and woke up to a freezer that was almost completely frosted over and soft foods. Not good!

    Good luck,

it might be worth it to spend a couple of bucks on a thermometer and check the temps in the various zones. There are USDA guidelines for freezer temps.... see how yours compares.
