    RAAM Help

    Hi Folks,

I'm crewing for an amazing RAAM team - two women, both over 60, going for the oldest female finishers. Both are heading into the race looking great.

One of the women has to drive the 15-passenger van from Lumberton, NC out to Oceanside, CA. She's leaving on June 8, early in the morning, and whoever drives with her could be in CA as early as June 11, if necessary. They will pay all expenses, including airfare either back east after the drive, or from CA to NC if any of our west coast ladies want to help. The volunteer is more than welcome to stay and help with some other crew duties for as long as they want. Mainly, Mary would just like someone to help drive so she can get some rest along the way -- it would be bad for her to start the race tired.

Please let me know either here or by private message if you can help.

That was fast -- she may have found someone to help drive. I'll repost as soon as I know for sure either way. Thank you SO much to the volunteer who already spoke up - you're wonderful for thinking about helping out these ladies. (RAAM Boomers if anyone wants to follow our race.)

Okay - we found someone to drive the van, but now, another hiccup. One of our crew members had an emergency (pregnant wife got in a bad car accident) so he has to, understandably, back out. So, this is what our crew director posted, below. If you or anyone you know would be interested, let me know and I'll connect you with John.

    HTML Code:
We expect to have a crew person arrive in San Diego, CA sometime in the a.m. of either Sat June 11 or Sun 12th.
Inspection of bikes is Mon June 13, 9 a.m; so the big push will be to have the purchased vans and the bikes set up completely for the inspect.

Race starts June 15 at noon (we actually have a person arriving Tues) Wed June 15.
Hoping to finish in Annapolis somewhere around the 24-25th.
Nancy Guth and Mary Florian are entered as the very first 2W -( 60+) team in the thirty years of the event.
Each day will need to cover an average of 338 miles, to make the 3031miles in our projected time.

All we can offer is an adventure, air fare and $30 daily stipend.
Looking for someone interested, has a drivers lic and a Veh Insurance card.
We have assembled a cycling, RAAM oriented crew this year vs last years makeup, just need additional person.
At present we have 11 crew. Four of this contingent have done RAAM before as rider or crew.

If you know anyone interested - accommodations will be sparse and hours long.

OMG - a crew of 11! That would be heavenly. We crewed in 2009 for the 8 tandem team - five vehicles and a crew of 10.

    Good luck!

V, a few of us are "sharing" the shift. One woman is stopping in Durango, and that's about where I'll pick up when I finish Ride the Rockies.
