    Reno, NV

I just learned that I (and my supervisor) have been approved to travel to the TRB Applications Conference in Reno from May 8-12. This will probably be the one conference in my life that is so focused on what I DO for a living, and I love the high mountain desert - it has been about 25 years since I've been in that part of the world.

Do we have any Reno members? Are there bike trails? Are rental bikes available? We will be at the Peppermill Resort Hotel, which is apparently close to the airport. We have receptions the first couple of evenings, but I would like to take one of our evenings there and go biking or hiking.

Is anyone familiar about the area? Thankfully the hotel apparently has a very nice workout facility, so that will help me to work off that food I shouldn't eat but know I probably will

I don't know anything about Reno. Could you call the hotels toll free number and ask them? They have a concierge, I suspect, so they would likely have resources you could get in touch with. Or you could googlemap the hotel and see what's nearby (use hybrid view) and often nearby businesses will be labeled. Or you could do a search for "bike rental" near the name of your hotel.
I'm thinking of going to Boulder, CO and that's what I did and found a ton of resources.
    Good luck.

Good idea, I had spoken with the hotel and they weren't all that helpful Perhaps not many of their guests are there for hiking or biking? I will keep at it. Will also check with any bike stores that might be in town.

Catrin, there's a guy on RBR named Ridgetop who lives in or near Reno. Here's his answer to a question on RBR about renting a bike and riding in Reno.

If you post your question on RBR, I would assume he'd respond. Incidentally, I'd note he's one heck of a strong rider and great photographer. Search for some of his ride reports; they're pretty awesome.

Since you are a Surly fan, I'd start with the Surly dealer in Reno. Maybe you can arrange a "test ride."
