New bike!!! - Long wait, Long post!!

Adventure Girl had to be "Patient Girl" for a lonnnnnnnng time on this one. At long last, today I got to ride my new bike for the first time. My husband tried to surprise me and give this bike to me for my birthday (in June).

    Bike ordered in March.
    Original promised date was mid-June.
    Mid-June, No bike.
Bike promised by the end of June.
    End of June, No bike.
Bike was promised on July 5.
    July 5, No bike.
Bike was promised by the end of July.
    End of July, No bike.
    Bike was promised early August.
August 8th… Guess what!! Bike arrived!
    Wrong size…
Bike reordered. Promised in 2 weeks
    2 weeks… No bike.
Bike promised in 2 more weeks.
    2 more weeks… No bike.
Bike promised in 2 MORE weeks.
    2 MORE weeks… No bike.
Finally, a frame is available, but the manufacturer couldn’t get it powder coated for… 2 more weeks!!!
So we had it powder coated ourselves.
The bike was built last weekend, but didn't have the correct brake rotors.
ONE brake rotor came in on Thursday.
Friday my mechanic mounted a different brake rotor that will work. We'll get it changed when the correct one comes in. I got to ride it today and it was worth the wait!

So…. Here's my bike. It's a Santa Cruz Blur XC, size extra small. It is custom powder coated bright yellow with a tiny bit of sparkly metal flake in it. It's beautiful and it is a dream to ride. I love it. Poor Robert has been waiting since March for this to happen.

Adventure Girl - That is beautiful (glad it arrived eventually). I have a Juliana on order, would have loved a Blur but my bank balance is still getting over the purchase of my road bike.

Love to hear about your rides on her/him.

Very, very nice. Good thing you live in CA so the riding season isn't over yet.

So pleased it finally arrived - anticipation is supposed to make things sweeter - but there is something such as too much anticipation...

    Glad its finally here!!! WOOHOO!!!

    Canuck,

AG has at least one road bike.

Yeah, I don't understand full suspension on the road, but sometimes they don't know there's a better option, sometimes it's for the challenge of doing things the hard way, and sometimes ..... it's the only bike they have.

My "commuter bike" is a hardtail with slicks, Tuesday on BART I had a short nice chat with a fella, my guess is he's trying to save a buck on gas although he said he rides for the fitness. He had a Murray, one of those K-mart bikes with worse-than-worthless front suspension and knobby tires.

He pointed at my tires and asked if I took the bike off road. I gave him the $0.50 tour of why higher psi + less rolling resistance = nice commute, also a brief "getta helmet" lecture of course.
