The slide says the helmet "takes a cue from the way the skull protects itself" which isn't the most precise writing ever.
To simplify without personifying, the brain is protected by floating in a gooey layer surrounded by the hard layer of skull, so maybe that's what designers have in mind for a helmet.Each day is a gift, that's why it is called the present.
