Do you know what it means, to miss New Orleans?

Aside from the local NPR jazz station playing that song fairly often it seems, almost rubbing in the good parts of the city that I'll miss, this time of year I was missing Mr. Mueller's Christmas Stollen (or should that be Herr Mueller?). Anyway - Mr. Mueller is a retired German gentleman that would bake bread and bring it to the local farmer's market that happened to be near my office. At Christmas time, he'd bake a wonderful Stollen, which I was sorely missing....

Before I left, when I went to farmer's market for the last time, I told him I was moving away and would sorely miss his Stollen. He said to email my new address and he'd send me a loaf, as he mails out loaves to others. So after I got settled in my house, I sent an email to him, and heard nothing back. Considering things get lost in cyberspace, I was concerned that he got the message. But I wasn't going to push the issue. And I did find a local old country bakery that also makes Stollen - the propretress suggested a taste-off between her's and Mr. Muellers.

Well in yesterday's mail was a big box - a loaf of Stollen, and a loaf of his multigrain bread with a Christmas Card
I was expecting an invoice, as I did intend to pay for the bread - but instead I got a present!!

And yes, I do know what it means to miss New Orleans.

What a great story! Sounds like that Stollen will feed your soul!

Another good radio station for jazz is 91.3 KBCS. It's the radio station for Bellevue Community College, and you can see a listing of their jazz programs about halfway down here.

For live music, check out the calendar for Earshot Jazz Festival.

I'm sure nothing is quite like the scene in New Orleans, but maybe you can still get your fix somehow!

Bmc, I hope you will feel equally sentimental about your new home soon...but it may be easier without humidity this summer

    That's a cool story!
