    Cycling is Saving My Life

Well, not necessarily my life - but my lungs!

I'm a very serious asthmatic and have been hospitalized more times than I can count. However, today, I went to my new specialist here in Missouri (had to get a referral) and he compared my Pulmonary Function Tests to old ones from my doctor in IN and he said my numbers are looking MUCH better (not great, they never will be, but good!). He thinks the amount of cycling I am doing is really, really helping me!

And mentally, man, it is saving my life! I commuted yesterday home at night and it was the best ride I have had in ages. It's just awesome!

I think that it is saving quite a few of our lives!! The spring of '09 I weighed 220 lbs. Standing here today, I weigh about 128. I owe the weight loss and healthy eating with my cycling obsession. I have no doubt that my life, quality and quantity, has been extended due to cycling. Cycling has also helped my mental state tremendously!

    Good for you!

Wow. That's really a testament to both the sport and your dedication. I have definitely lost weight, but not only that - firmed up immensely. I love riding, though, so it doesn't matter if I GAIN weight. I love it too much to stop haha.

And on the mental state, my shrink absolutely does not want to stop me from riding. She is very pro-cycling for me. We have tailored the meds she has been working with me on to make sure I have the energy to ride.

It makes the money I spend on cycling seem even better. No way that doctors are cheaper than the $50.00 or so I spend a month on cycling stuff!

    Good stuff, Colorisnt and Abejita!

My asthma is steadily improving too, it's both a reward and an incentive to do more

Colorisnt, that is such good news! I don't know much about asthma, but I'm glad that you can be active and see improvement. You deserve a lot of credit for persevering with an active lifestyle.

And Abejita, your story is very inspiring. I agree about mental state, too.

The benefits of cycling continue to amaze me.
