Missed reaching my mileage goal for the year

I am SO bummed!!! My goal was to hit 7,000 miles before the snow hits. I am currently sitting at 6,918...just 82 miles from hitting my goal. Forecast is calling for minimum of 4 inches Friday night into Saturday...with cold temps. I could have easily gotten in 82 miles on Sat & Sun, but now it looks like I won't be able to. I feel so utterly disappointed.

Most cycling distance challenges will allow for miles on the: 1)spin bike, 2)stationary bike and 3)bike on the trainer. If you complete your distance goal on any of the above indoor bikes, it does not diminish what you have achieved. You can look back at the year, at all of the miles you biked, and you will come to understand the gains you made in your cardio fitness and your cycling skill sets. It is the journey that is important. Complete the challenge on an indoor bike.

You did great. Be real proud of your accomplishments.

Holy cow! That's still 5,000 more miles than I rode this year!

Be proud of what you have accomplished....

Do you have until 12-31? 82 miles should be a piece of cake for you by then. It ain't over 'til it's over.

ETA: Ah, just saw your goal was before snow. That shouldn't stop you. Studded tires!

That's ALOT of miles! You can do it! Get some studded tires and hammer out that goal! (Or ride the nowhere bike).

And to add to sentiment, that's 6,000 miles more than me!

Well, Heck. That's 6918 miles WASTED.
Really now. Look at it this way. You had a great year and did some really good mileage. I'm sure you are no less fit/fast/strong having 82 less miles under your wheels.
The body and the brain needs a break in winter. Don't waste it being bummed.
Go treat yourself for having a super spectacular year....take a few weeks off...then onto the rollers/trainer with your bad self after Christmas!

BTW..It's amazing to think the pros are riding around 14,000 miles a year.

Seriously, you almost made it. I would be stoked! You have almost 2,000 more miles than me. It is truly fantastic! What is are 82 silly miles when you have 6918???? That glass looks way more full than empty!

    Slacker!

Wait a minute - snow comes tomorrow evening? Then get your rear out of your work chair (assuming that's where it is right now) and get out there! You still have 24 hours! You can do it!

Really - that's some damn impressive milage.

    (6,918/7,000) * 100 = 98.8%
That was still an "A" where I went to school!

Oh, this reminds me of that annoying girl in 8th grade. You know, the one who lamented after every test that she didn't get an A+. And then she'd ask you want your grade was. And you would tell her (usually it was a solid B in my case). And then she would tell you that she only got an A-. It was very annoying.

Sorry, but I have little patience for this stuff. Do your 82 miles or don't, but don't get all in a huff about it. It really does not matter what you don't do. It matters what you do do.

nscrbug, I SOOOOO feel your pain! I'm less than 50 miles from my goal of 5000 miles. We've had over 28" of snow in the last 10 days. Those last few miles are going to have to be indoor miles. I hate indoor miles! bikerHen

The mileage you've done is quite impressive, but if you are so close and it means a lot to meet your goal, then I would be calling in sick from work tomorrow to get an 82 mile ride in before the snow starts falling. (Be sure to ride AWAY from the office)

I want to be on the "look on the brightside" group.

But I get it. A goal is a goal.

I also think that when you set big goals, it becomes terrifying to think you are going to miss it. It is not a random number, it is a number you set and worked towards.

I am firmly in the "get on the trainer" or "leave work" or "ride in the snow" or "go the the gym and spin on a boring bike" group.

Yes, enjoy the accomplishment of what you have done, and then go find a way (ANY way) to get the last 82 done. There's still time in 2010.
Slow and steady (like a train!)

Thank you for "getting it"...I was afraid that some folks might miss the point of my post. Of course I am delighted and proud of my accomplishments on the bike this year. But like you said - "a goal is a goal" and I tend to be a tad bit neurotic when it comes to setting a mileage goal. Rest assured, I WILL find some way to complete those last 82 miles before Dec. 31...preferably outside on the road.
