    Smile Happy Fall Equinox

gorgeous day for a bike ride today. Last night it actually got down to 70 degrees which gave everything a chance to cool off a bit. High temps today were in the mid 80's instead of the high 90's and although the humidity is still sticky high, it did feel a bit cooler. Did a nice 40 miler at about 16 mph with a nice tail wind on the way out and as usual a stiff headwind (20 mph on the New Bern scale) on the way back in. Got hit by a couple of bizarre Texas spot showers- the type where you are riding in the sun on a dry road and then suddenly with the space of a minute, it is dark, pelting rain and extremely gusty windy for about 2 miles and then suddenly it is nice and the road is dry At one point I looked up down the road and could see the edge of the shower marching up the field and road towards me in a literal line of vertical rain. Tonight is a glorious full moon, very appropriate, and I made enchiladas and I had one last bottle of magic hat seasonal fall ale left from a 6 pack from several weeks ago which went very nicely with the meal. Life is good.

And a "super harvest moon" tonight, when there's a full moon on the day of the autumnal equinox. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/blo...rst_day_o.html

So of course I geekily went out at 11:09 and took a photo of the moon!

Happy Spring Equinox here too. Of course, being Wellington, that means gales and lots of them. I'm determined to ride tomorrow and not be confined to a trainer, but I really, really hate being blown across the road!

I'm actually in a part of the country where the trees look like fall! It's hard to get excited about the fall equinox when it's still summer temperatures. Then it's just a date on the calendar.
