    Sunglasses

I'm curious about sunglasses. I need prescription correction of a high astigmatism and do have a pair of prescription sun glasses, but they're basically regular frames with tinted lenses, so I'm wondering about these wrap around glasses I'm seeing so many wearing.

I wasn't wearing my sun glasses for my last ride, but soon found that the low angle of the sun and buildings made it really hard as the shadows put curves half in shade/sun so I wouldn't see the entire curve until I was half way into it... and it wasn't even six o'clock!!!

My question... Should I just stick to the sunglasses I have or should I seek new "riding" sunglasses?

Anyone else out there need corrective lenses? I've ever worn contacts and once upon a time my astigmatism prohibited it, so I just got used to glasses. I think if I REALLY wanted them I could do it now with improved tech in contacts. Just not confidant I'd get used to the "something on/in my eye" deal.

    Thanks,
    Shannon

There's a similar thread on here somewhere that I'm too lazy to find for you.

But my astigmatism is bad enough (particularly in combination with my normal prescription) that I can't get prescription athletic sunglasses. The size of the lenses would be too big (compared to normal sunglasses). Contacts bother my eyes but I prefer to wear them on rides anyway. It's a little too unnerving for me to have any peripheral vision that isn't corrected. But...I also won't ride without some kind of glasses protecting my eyes.

Is this the one you're thinking of? http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=39188

There was some discussion of Rx sunglass sources over there, pretty recent. I'm shopping, myself, and am in that "your lenses would need to be too thick to fit almost any cool-looking wrap style" boat.

I wear Oakleys. I love that they are protective for my eyes, but we did have to 'tweak' the astigmatism prescription in one eye in order for me to be able to have them. I do not notice it when I wear them - I notice more that I don't have a bifocal when I need to read something

At first my eyes had to adjust when I switched back to my normal glasses, but since then my eyes have become accustomed to the two prescriptions and there are no problems. I really like having the wrap-around glasses and Oakley's shatter-proof lenses and I do NOT notice any problems with my vision with the adjusted prescription for cycling. I am sure that it would be a problem with other activities, but not for riding. My eye dr put me through a few tests to make sure that the changed prescription would work for the purpose; she has done this for other people to get them into Oakleys.

I feel everyone's pain here. I need bifocals to change a tire, but am currently running contacts with Oakleys. I can't cough up the cash for super glasses, and can't stand all the wind that rushes around normal frames. I'm considering wearing a motorcycle helmet with a tinted visor when I ride.

    I dunno.
