    Cool Ah-ha!

Just wanted to share an achievement.

A few weeks ago I did a trail ride and averaged faster than I was expecting. I was so proud of myself, I told DH. He didn't believe me. The Garmin had to be set wrong because that's what he and his friend (we'll call him G) were averaging when they rode.

I just shrugged, I guess it was possible.

Last week DH and I did a road ride. He kept asking me what my Garmin was reading. He was rather perplexed as our Garmin's were giving identical data . . . He was even more perplexed when he didn't drop me on the triple climb, in past years he'd fly up like I was going backwards.

Yesterday, we all rode "the trail." DH, G, myself, and some of my girlfriends. The guys went ahead and then we started. I kept it at an easy, but steady pace. After 1/2 mile, I turned around and my friends were gone.

I kept going, slowing down, stopping occassionally as I could hear the click of gears shifting. I thought it was my friends behind me. But once I got to a clearing, I saw it was the guys about 1/4 of a mile ahead.

I wish I had a picture of their faces when I bridged them--and on a long climb. We rode together for about 5 miles before DH went off the front. I picked up the pace too and dropped G instantly.

Another accomplishment that day, 35 miles of singletrack! That's my longest trail ride yet.

    It's fun to get faster.

Nice job! Sounds like you are making great progress. And the boys just don't like it when we can keep up - sort of bruises their ego (but I'm sure he's really proud of you!).

It was some much needed affirmation. Especially since DH kept questioning my garmin reading and averages. I signed up, on a whim, for a mountain bike race in 3 weeks as an Expert. I'm now feeling more confident about racing in that category.

Good for you! Racing MTB as an expert is tough, but you can do it! Whatever happens, enjoy your race and remember that you do this for FUN! I'm telling you this because when I did my first race as an expert it was, um, a bit humbling. Big jump from Sport to Expert.

That said, you have been making big improvements and doing lots of training, so you are definitely ready for the challenge! What I am trying to say in a round about way is good job, have fun, and whatever you do, don't get discouraged!
