    July Swimming

Wish I was doing OWS like many of you, but yesterday I did 3000m, very happy about that. Got off the crutch this week and did 500 kickboard. The DVT means I cannot go too fast, so I am gonna relearn to swim these 4 months and concentrate on technique. Yesterday I swam with the little plastic stick that I have to change from hand to hand at the top of the stroke...hard but really makes a point.

Hey! I'm glad to see you posting! I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how your recovery was coming along.

    Good to hear from you!

2800 today :-) I got a couple of new bathingsuits, and they are in the mail. Can't wait!

Tribogota! Great to hear from you. Hope the recovery continues to go well!

For me, today was just about getting more comfortable in the water. Didn't even count laps - did some basic Total Immersion balance drills, swam steady for about half an hour, a couple more drills before I wrapped it up.

It felt good. I was even doing some bilateral breathing which I've really NEVER done. I suppose when I first learned to swim, the instructors would've had me breathe from both sides, but I don't remember ever doing it.

And I hardly swallowed any pool water! If you knew the lake where they're doing the OWS, this is a VERY, VERY important thing to learn.

TriB, good going! Glad to hear that you're recovering.

Yesterday I got into Donner Lake for what I hoped was a 40 minute swim. Unfortunately, the wind had kicked up so there were waves on the lake. I bobbed around like a cork on the ocean. Ugh! Nauseating. I did 25 minutes and gave up. I'm going to try again tomorrow.

    Excellent, tribogota! Welcome back!

Roadie Gal - I had that feeling at last weeks OWS. There were so many boats on the lake that it was rough. I could swim in it, but I was getting really sick to my stomach. It makes me think that I'll never be able to do ocean swims (I'm very prone to motion sickness)!

I swam on Monday - 2000y, my longest swim yet (in a pool). It was super crowded though! I had all my stuff at the end of the lane and was getting in when my cap ripped (like a huge hunk ripped off!), so I had to run into the locker room for a spare. When I got out, three people were getting into my lane (the other person who had been in it had left) with those noodle things. I grabbed my stuff and moved to a different lane and the guy I joined said "man, you got bumped out of the cherry lane? bummer!". I thought that was funny. Anyway, I did my whole workout even though there were people who were waiting. Why none of them asked to join us or any of the other lanes is beyond me. Every lane (except for the noodle lane) had 2 people in it. Of course, half of the people were barely swimming so circle swimming could have been an issue I guess.

I just ordered a replacement cap, a lycra cap and a poly suit. I was seriously over-heating in the pool and I realized that all of my suits are overly baggy in the body. I actually ordered the poly suit in a size that is 3 sizes smaller than my current suits (same brand and style). Yay for weight loss!

Today is OWS after work. I'm excited. I think I now prefer it to the pool swimming!
