Trek 2100 WSD arrived at shop!

My power was restored here in Miami on Wednesday evening, and late Thursday afternoon, I found out my new bike had arrived at the LBS. After going 7 days without power - feeling the air conditioning return, then hearing about the bike, you would have thought I had won the lottery!!! Anyway . . . I just wanted to give you a little update. I'll keep you updated

When do you get it??? I didn't know power was out down there for so long. I have a friend in Miami, and she said it was very bad, but she didn't lose power. I put 225 miles on mine this week, and she's going to her first race on Sunday!

    Nanci -

Over 1.3 million lost power in Miami - your friend was VERY lucky . . . one of my friends didn't lose power either, but for the rest of us, we sweat buckets!!! I shouldn't complain though with all that the other victims are now dealing with - so, so sad.

I'm hopefully going to be able to get my bike tomorrow or Monday - they had gotten in a huge Trek shipment so they had lots of bikes to assemble. I'm very excited - I feel like a little girl again on Christmas Eve!!!

225 miles - that's great Nanci. So, how do you like the bike? And your friend, whereabouts in Miami is she racing?

    Hi Kathryn,

My friend rescues/rehabs pigeons- that's where I know her from. She _did_ say she was afraid her 8th floor!!! apartment was going to flood.

I love the WSD 2100. I think I am going to name her Lava. I got her all polished up for her racing debut tomorrow. It took me a while to adjust from MTB to road bike, but I am very comfortable with her now.

Wow, seven days. We lost power I think three times here because of hurricanes last summer, but only three or four days at a time. Luckily most of them came over the weekend. I didn't have to go to work- they just made volunteers stay at the hospital the whole duration. I think the worst is not having running water. I have a big container to store it in this year. And we have a grill now. Last year we ate at the neighbors who had a grill or at the one restaurant that stayed open the whole time. It was an adventure. I was so scared the first time, with Charley, but then I just became numb. I live in a mobile home. It stood up to the winds well. I was afraid my big trees were going to fall on the bedroom, so I wouldn't sleep in there. I can't imagine living on the coast...

Last year, FEMA reimbursed people for generators, but you had to have the cash to buy one in the first place, and be able to find one. I tried to buy a room AC this week- impossible to just go to the store and get one.

Oh- when I said "she's going to her first race" I meant the bike, not my friend in Miami. I am going to a sprint tri in Crystal River. But I swim like a bag of rocks, so it's going to be...interesting. I hope to make up many places on the bike, only to lose them again on the run.

    Hi Nanci -

Lava, I like that!! So that means she's hot and steamrolls through all the competition Good luck tomorrow and do let me know how it goes. I run every morning and ride late afternoons - I also swim, but not religiously. I've actually thought about doing a couple sprint tris just for fun. Let's see first how I manage the new road bike - I'm so very excited.

I don't own a generator, but on day 5, my next door neighbor was able to get hold of a generator - wow - just having a fan was like heaven. I felt so bad for my kitties - as soon as I turned the fan on, they sat right in front of it. You know, a generator is something I really need to get, but it's one of those things that I say "oh, I'll get one soon" and I just never do it. I do have a great hurricane supply box, but by day 7, I was so tired of eating Clif/Balance Bars, I just wanted some real food. With so many stores/restaurants out of power for so long, I was afraid to purchase anything. Thank goodness I did have some things that stayed in the cooler, but for the most part, is was bars, yogurt and cottage cheese. Oh, and graham crackers.

Again, best of luck tomorrow and I look forward to hearing about your race.

    Race Report

    Hi Kathryn,

I posted the full race report in the Triathlon section. I made it through the swim. I did really well on the bike- moving up 12 places from where I was on the swim. I did ok for me on the run. It was so much fun!! Age Group (45-49) second.
