    Jenna Bush's bikes get stolen

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...,3926374.story

When my bike got stolen, I got a police report ("here, you can give this to your insurance company") and the advice to call around to pawn shops.

None of this business with assigned detectives, checking for fingerprints, or camera surveillance checks. Harumph.

To be fair, it was a residential burglary. Those always merit more police attention than a simple theft, because of the high probability of violence.

Not to say that there would be any fingerprints taken if your attached garage or mine got broken into, though.

DC's Mayor Fenty had two mountain bikes stolen from his garage recently, too ... right out from under the noses of security officers on duty.

I don't get why people would leave bikes in a garage. Aren't they usually easier to get into than the main part of the house? Mine always were.

I would have my bike locked indoors if I didn't live in a doorman building.

I know people whose garages are more pristine than my house, more free of mice, and just as watertight.

Which might have something to do with bringing the bicycles into the house...
