I met a kid yesterday, who is riding his bike from my town of Rancho Cucamonga, CA to the White House. He is leaving tomorrow, June 5th. His plan is to ride about 60 miles a day for 40 days, taking Sundays off. His parents are following in their van.
He was going to ride his BMX bike, which cracks me up, but Giant donated a road bike to him. He was amazed how much faster he could ride the bike trail to the beach and back. What took him 3 hours on his BMX took him 2 on the road bike.![]()
My friend and riding partner first met him and his mom at our LBS a couple of months ago and told me about him. Then they showed up at our club meeting last night to generate support. I went to that LBS today and they happened to be there again, getting last minute stuff for his trip. So I have talked to them a lot and find it kind of comical all the questions they have about things like energy drinks and chamois cream. Things you'd think one would know well before embarking on a ride across the country ... TOMORROW!I'm a little concerned for his butt ... and told him so.
I gave him some tips for that.
Anyway, he's a really neat kid and deserves all the support he can get. You can check out his website to learn more about him, read his story, why he's doing this, track his progress and donate if you'd like.
