    Saturday, May 30th Rides

This morning I had a beautiful 23.5 mile ride. It started by riding with a friend on the Zionsville Rail-Trail - he hasn't ridden all year and has very bad feet, so we were riding quite slow - but that was fine. The point was to encourage him to get out on his bike. Hopefully that will encourage his wife to get her bike out as well

After that I continued onto my usual country roads, and was out for 3 hours before all was said and done. The temps did jump quite a bit in those 3 hours, but still more pleasant from earlier this week. Saw 2 deer, a woodpecker, and assorted other birds

Shifting is getting easier and more intuitive - and while I forgot to put Cytomax in my water bottle, I was thankful because at one point I poured that bottle over my head. It felt great! Body dealt better with the heat as well - this is good as the Tour de Cure, Indianapolis, is two weeks from today!

Rode the Honey Tour today in Burleson, Texas. Up at 5:30, bikes loaded, on our way by 5:45 (we are fast).
A beautiful ride with rolling hills, moderate climbs, today NO wind (which was awesome but hot), temp about 90 by the time we finished.
51 miles in 3:11, including 3 short stops. I pretty much hit a wall at about 39 miles and dropped off the back and off my 18 or 19 mph average for six or seven miles, then picked it up again at the end.
    Good ride today!

I got in just over 22 miles on Saturday on my usual trail, which I rode twice; started about an hour before sunset, so it was dark when I got back to the car. I saw a box turtle and numerous deer, and heard pee-wees, a wood thrush, and the very common geese and blackbirds (grackles, starlings, and red-winged).

I was feeling slightly sluggish from not being on the bike (other than the xtracycle for commuting/errands) in about two weeks, but I pulled myself out of bed and headed out on the weekly Sorella Forte women's ride. Eight of us did a nice hilly 30ish miler up through Washington Park, Skyline Drive, Old Germantown road and back down Skyline. mapmyride.com claims it was about 3100 ft of climbing, but I think it's overestimating a bit.

We're still waiting for summer weather here - it was chilly and occasionally wet, but the sun peeked through once or twice. I was more than ready for the free mocha when we got back to the shop.

You are much better than us. We didn't leave until about 8:30 and went to mesquite. We did 51 miles and i think that it was 97 when we finally made it home.
