    Overtrained or Under-fueled?

I did not have a great ride today. I was sluggish and my heart rate was higher than normal with a lower mph average. I can't figure out if I've overtrained this week or under-fueled for my workout.

Is there a way to tell the difference?

I see you are in MI. We have had hot, humid weather this week. Maybe you are not used to working out and riding in those types of conditions yet. I know of way more people who have difficulty riding in heat and not cold. Give me 80 over 40 any day!!!

It's likely the heat/change in weather and perhaps a lower level of hydration? I had a sluggish run this morning and I fully expect to go through both water bottles on my hour-long group ride tonight. I'm hoping to find some fuel that works for me before my first "real" duathlon on Saturday.

Make sure you eat and hydrate well tonight and try again tomorrow!

If it was hot and particularly humid, I think heat may have been your culprit. If you have a heart monitor, watch your HR as the temps climb. Does it gradually increase while your speed decreases?

I didn't even think about the heat. Yeah, it was humid and hot. And I do much better in cold weather.
