I am lucky to live just a few short miles from a luge run. I took a "Learn to Luge" class this morning. It was a little scary after the tragedy that happened in Vancouver. But I'm glad I went ahead and took the class.
It was so much fun! I felt like I had very little control over the sled. You're supposed to use pressure from your shoulders to turn the sled, but I felt like I was at the mercy of the course.
A couple of my runs I felt like a pinball, bouncing back and forth against the wallsBut after that, I somehow managed to have some really smooth runs.
By the end of the run, I was FLYING. The instructor's said we'd get up to 30 to 35 mph. I couldn't sit up to stop the sled down at the finish and I'd crash into giant feather pillows. It was pretty cool.
At some point I must have hit my calf on something, but I don't recall when it could have happened. But it's very bruised and swollen.
I think I might join the a luging team next season. I'll have pictures I can post next week![]()
