    Talking my first bike.... EVER

    Attachment 10538

Here is my new steed, and the very first one. It is a Trek 7.6 FX WSD. With some fear, I've learned how to take the front wheel off so I can transport it in my trunk. Thankfully the bike is quite light, as I need to turn it upside down to do so It is much more stable that way though.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to practice a little in my apartment complex before heading to my spinning class. I am trying to master the Fine Art of NOT Falling Over more than necessary...

I asked them to add a kick-stand and to remove those floppy toe straps that were REALLY getting in my way. I hope to go clipless by early June, but time will tell. Thankfully I am already using them in spinning class, so that should help.

I don't spin, but it seems to me it would be a good idea to get in the habit of clipping out whenever you stop the flywheel on the spin bike. Otherwise, you'll be in the habit of just "stopping," still clipped in.

Congratulations Catrin. There is nothing like the feeling/knowledge of having your first bike. May you have many great rides together. I had the same feeling after all of my other bike purchases too. I felt like a kid in a candy store when I brought them home. Nothing beats your first though. I actually still have that bike in my house.

    Many happy rides together.

I have a one-on-one basic mechanics course scheduled at my LBS, and also have a fitting scheduled that day. The bike is the right size, but it seems good to look at the fit. They have a computerized fitting system and with my proportions, it seems a good idea.

Now I just need to find a safer place to practice
