Cycling shoe size compared to heel size

So I'm trying to do some Christmas shopping for my girl friend so I figured I would turn to the experts.

I want to buy her some cycling shoes, as she is sporting sneakers and platforms. She wears size six in women's tennis shoes, and size 5 for size heels. For me, I wear slightly smaller cycling shoes then my tennis shoes, so I wondered if it holds true for women's cycling shoes to.

So the question is, should I aim for around size 6 or aim for 5's?

I'd go for her tennis shoe size. Women's heels.... nah. Not what I'd want to wear on my bike. they aren't very comfortable and are usually strappy. Just make sure she can return them if they don't work

Trace an insole from her tennis shoes and take it to the bike shop with you to compare with the insoles in the bike shoes. Also make sure you can exchange them if they are the wrong size or style.

Offer to take her shopping. You need to try them on. I can wear practically any size 39 cycling shoe I try on, but my boyfriend tried on basically every shoe available in all three local shops (maybe 15 models or so) and only one was comfortable for him.

Also, size is very individual. I wear a 7.5 - 8 street shoe and a size 39 cycling shoe. Judging from what I have read on this board, a lot of women who ostensibly have the same foot size wear a completely different cycling shoe size (lots of 40.5s and 41s, it seems).

    Besides, it's a nice romantic gesture .

Fit first of course - buying them somewhere she can exchange without penalty is a good plan - but also, if she hasn't decided what type of pedals she wants, it's probably best to get shoes that are compatible with both two- and three-bolt cleats.

Have you been shoe-shopping with her before? Are her feet easy to fit, or difficult? I personally have feet that are, shall we say, unusually shaped, and I wouldn't want anyone else buying me shoes, simply because I can't count on being able to wear anything that an unknown shop stocks. But then there are people like liza, who are easy to fit.

It's a really nice thought and I hope it works out for your GF.

I've alway ran Look Keos and like them, so I picked up a pair of Look Keo Easys. As for the shoes, I decided to go with a pair of these...

I picked them up in size 37.5
