    Cycling Magazines

I am going to purchase a subscription for a cycling magazine for my hubby for Christmas. Does anyone have one that they like about any other? My two choices right now are Bicycling and Velonews. Velo is much more expensive but it looks like a nice source of information and comes with a few extras. Bicycling is only $11 for 11 issues! That is cheap but I want a good sources of info for the hubby to read.

    annielynn!

Thanks for the reminder. I had bookmarked this cycling magazine a few months ago to get my husband for Christmas and had forgotten:

My favorite bike magazine is "Momentum".

I've got a 3-year subscription. You can get it free at some REI and LBS, but it is well worth having a subscription! It's more about riding the bike than about racers or racing, and definitely has a strong focus on utility riding.

Depends on where your husband's interest lies.

A membership to the League of American Bicyclists includes a subscription to their American Bicyclist, and a subscription to Bicycling magazine. I read every word of American Bicyclist. Bicycling magazine goes directly to the recycling after I read Bike Snob's article.

Buying your husband a membership to the Bike League gets him both magazines and all the benefits of being a Bike League member. Which for me the important benefit is that I'm supporting lobbyists for my pet cause.

Momentum sounds like an interesting magazine too.

What a perfect solution! This is just the nudge I needed to join the League. Thank you for the great suggestion.

We get both Velonews and Bicycling. They are both great magazines but very different. Velonews is expensive, yes, but my husband enjoys reading it because he follows professional cycling. It would depend on what your husband's interests are.

    I like Cycle Sport.

I'm on a spending diet right now though so I didn't renew my subscription this fall . Though I was happy that I did get a few issues past the TDF.

I too would suggest Velonews over Bicycling, much more informative... although I wish they had more womens coverage!Another great magazine is Road Bike Action, much better than Bicycling and offers subject matter for many different levels . If anyone likes to read about travel/touring, the Adventure Cycling membership is a great one as well.

    Ditto on VeloNews.
Tho I think Cycle Sport is even better at covering the pro racing scene.
Road is also a good road magazine.
Bicycling has had some interesting stories lately, like the 501 lb guy who lost all the weight by cycling, and a while back a family who cycled together (husband, wife and I think 2 kids?). They were actually very good, long feature stories.
But I vote for CycleSport for hubby.
