maybe a silly question -- replacement helmet straps?

My helmet is not ready to be retired yet, but some time ago I cut the straps too short and now the buckles want to come off sometimes.

Online, I have seen replacement pads and replacement retention devices (the plastic doodad that goes at the back of your helmet, which seem to be sold without straps), but I have not been able to find replacement straps.

Does anyone know if they are available anywhere?

    Thanks!

You can get nylon webbing in different widths at fabric stores, sometimes in the sewing department of department stores.

A dog chewing incident destroyed one on a motorcycle helmet- I had luck at a shoe repair shop. The strap repair was stronger than I could imagine.

I've had 2 Gyro helmets that had the plastic thingy break that holds the strap. I contacted Gyro and they replaced the strap/plastic gizmo that holds it in place for a nominal fee. I guess sometimes it pays to pay a little more? Contact their great customer relations people if your helmet comes from Gyro.

Are the buckles sliding off the end of the (too short) straps?

Can you take the helmet to REI and ask them to sew a stop (like a hem) on the end of each strap?

If the length is good for your fit, and it's just that the buckles don't stay sometimes while the helmet is off, maybe a stop at the end of the web would work?

If they come off or come undone while you're wearing the helmet, that's different. I think I'd contact the manufacturer for advice at that point because of the safety issue.
