Pearl Izumi AmFib tights...

So I picked up a pair of PI AmFib tights yesterday at my local REI store (all PI tights are 25% off). I wore them this morning on a fairly cold 55-mile ride. The air temp was about 29 degrees when we headed out. I had on a pair of PI cycling shorts underneath the AmFib tights, for bottoms...and then on top, I had on an IceBreaker Merino wool baselayer underneath a Nike Pro cold-weather mock t-neck top. Plus I had on a Canari Touring cycling jacket...which is really just a glorified windbreaker. On my head, I was wearing a thin earband underneath a Bula helmet liner...plus a merino wool Buff around my neck and chin area. I was pretty toasty for a good portion of the ride. The AmFib tights really did their job at blocking the wind and keeping my legs/knees warm. I can't say enough praises about that! However, the one thing I did NOT like about the AmFib tights...is the material on the backside of the tight is VERY slippery and caused me to slide around excessively on my saddle. My Under Armour tights don't do this. I was really hoping that I had found the perfect cold-weather tight in the AmFib's...but I don't think I can deal with the constant sliding around on my saddle. I'm debating about whether or not I want to return them for something else.

Anyone else have this issue with the PI AmFib tights? Any suggestions for other decent non-padded cycling tights?

sorry, no help here. They get a little less slippery with use, but otherwise I just got used to it.

I love these tights as well, but have noticed the same problems you do. The slippery fabric makes them great for water resistance, but all I can say is I got used to them sliding around, and it probably made me pedal a bit more smoothly. If it gets really cold, I put these under a third layer (unpadded bib tights or something like that), which will help.

I have these tights and love them for winter riding around here. I was going to say that I didn't find that they were slippery at all, but the saddle I rode last year was lightly textured, so I didn't slide at all no matter what bottoms I wore. I have a new saddle this year, so it'll be interesting to see if they are too slippery for me, too.

I love my AmFib tights but don't remember having a sliding problem.

Perhaps you could put a cover on your saddle? Or, I know pro riders use some sort of tape to add friction to their saddles to prevent sliding; not sure what they use, but it might be something to look into.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Well, I ended up returning the AmFib tights today. I'm going to try the PI Elite Thermal (non-padded)..just ordered a pair today. Had to size-up in this tight...which is odd, because every other PI bottom that I own (and I own lots) is a medium...but with this new Elite Thermal tight I had to go with a Large. Luckily I got a chance to try on a pair (the padded version) at REI before ordering..otherwise, I surely would have ordered the wrong size. I couldn't even get the mediums up my thighs! Can't even imagine how tight they'd be worn over a pair cycling shorts.
