    Face Moisturizer for Riding?

What do you all do for face moisturizer when riding? Do you wear something different for riding than for everyday wear?

I ride when commuting which puts me on the bike about 1.5 hours per day. I've noticed that some days my cheeks seem a little 'wind-blown'.

    Thanks.

If I'm commuting, I just use my regular moisturizer with SPF 15. Olay something-or-other... I also keep some at work to re-apply if needed.

For longer rides, I use a face-specific, high-SPF sunscreen by Neutrogena. It doesn't sweat off the way my moisturizer sometimes does.

I put on an extra coat of my regular daily moisturizer before I ride when its dry out. You could try using a "nighttime" moisturizer on your cheeks. I've noticed the nighttime ones are heavier than the daytime creams.

When it's cold out, and especially if it's windy I'll use a little vaseline or similar on exposed spots, otherwise just ordinary moisturizer after my next shower. I.e. not before cycling.

I use Moisturizing Dermatone Lips'n Face Protection Creme with Z-Cote which is very moisturizing and protective against both wind and sun. You can buy it in a very small round tin, which is easy to stash in a back pocket.

I've been using the high SPF, face-specific sunscreen from Neutrogena...I have to after seeing the dermatologist this summer, who told me had to continue using high SPF for my skin exposed areas when outdoors during day.

But am beginning to wonder if this brand is drying out my cheeks abit. My skin on my nose and chin is different --since it's always been naturally oilier and sweatier.

Thought I'll never say this in my earlier years, but now that I am getting older and also having alot of exposure to outdoors daily, I would like to find an oil-free, hypoallergic moisturizer to delay face wrinkles and preferably, with high SPF. I really don't want to get into spending alot of money in experimenting several different brands before hitting right one for me.

For general moisturizer without SPF when I get out of the shower, I use Marcelle, oil-free (and it must be alcohol free also). Have not moved to try Olay or even more expensive brands because I don't want to cope with more cost of trying nor possibility of skin breakouts.

I'm super particular on creams on my face...as a teenager I had acne and underwent a regime of oral tetracycline, certain hypoallergic soap (Allenburys works for me), etc. according to dermatologist's guidance. My skin hasn't broken out since my early 20's but that is partially due to my tendency not to wear makeup often and just aging I guess. I cannot consider wearing Vaseline or cold creams on my face skin. Forget it.

Would be interested in hearing how others here for daily outdoor exercise, cope for T combination face skin --oily zone but dry/normal zone on cheeks...as you age.

I use this Clarins sunscreen when I do outdoor sports in the winter (when it's colder & drier and my skin is drier):

    http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...ategoryId=2082
("Sun Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 30").

I have acne prone skin and this does not break me out. It is mineral-based rather than chemical, so it does leave a little "glowy" finish that you may or may not like (my skin is combination also and can be a little oily sometimes, and I still don't feel like this makes me too shiny). The base is more moisturizing than what I usually wear in warmer weather, but it's great either in the winter or other times of year when my skin is feeling irritated and sensitive (sometimes if my skin is going through a fussy phase, chemical sunscreen stings when I put it on; this never stings and feels kind of comforting).

It gets odd reviews on Sephora, I guess if I hadn't used it before the review might scare me off a little -- but it has worked well for me. I will note that it is a little perfumy (smells like roses). I like it but if you are sensitive to frangranced products it might bother you.

I also like this SPF 30 day cream by Murad, but it's pricey (to me):
    http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...categoryId=B70

It's very moisturizing yet not heavy or greasy. I can even wear it in the summer, although I usually choose something a bit lighter.

When my skin gets really dry from medications I take, I use Cerave Moisturizer and a Neutrogena sun screen. I LOVE Cerave. Not cheap by drugstore brand standards (ps. if you're interested, it's easiest to find at a pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens), but it's good and doesn't break me out.

I use Clinique Repair Wear Day moisturizer, with spf 15 all of the time, but I also put the Neutrogena Face only sun block on over it, when I am going for a ride (spf 45). I guess I would skip the sun block if it was very early season, or late fall, when the spf 15 would be enough. My skin is normal, though I still get a break out here and there, even though I am almost 56!
The Clinique is expensive, but not as much ad other designer brands. It saved me when we were riding in Italy a few years ago. I totally did not remember to wear sun block and had long sleeves/tights on for the beginning of the ride. I changed to short sleeves and took off the tights after awhile and I got a horrible burn, everywhere except on my face.

Glad the original poster for topic got enough response...even though, thus far, not interesting enough for more to post answers...presumably rest of folks slather on same sunscreen for face as for arms/legs, don't use any or no need to use moisturizer/sunscreen for face yet? For latter, lucky you. I used to be like that in my 20's. Absolutely no sunscreen on face at all. But back then, I wasn't spending many days, many hrs. annually outdoors doing any sort of exercise.

It may appear to be a cosmetic /vain question (ie. minimizing wrinkles, chapped face skin), but I guess I do have a somewhat serious interest in this:

I had to have my face checked to ensure that a mole (or whatever the term) was benign...it was, after the dermatologist used liquid nitrogen to burn off the lst layer, to make a proper assessment underneath..

It was just this past summer. So I continue to use Neutrogena Face Specific Sunscreen...at SFP 60 while seek other solutions for T-combination face skin. Of course, will use it also when snowshoeing or hiking in winter.

Not a lack of interest for me, I just don't think I can help anyone. I don't commute by bike, so I use moisturizer (Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle spf 15 with retinol) for everday use/under makeup and when I'm doing a long bike ride I use 70 spf sunscreen (Neutrogena Sport was my brand this year, previously used Coppertone Sport). The Neutrogena comes in a face-specific formula, which it's mostly the same ingredients as their regular stuff. I use it because it is slightly less irritating to my eyes than the regular stuff.

My shorter mid-week bike rides are at the end of the day when the sun is low, so sunscreen is not an issue there. Whatever I put on my face that morning is what's on it while I ride.

At age 45 I still have all kinds of problems with breakouts despite my skin being much dryer than is used to be. The anti-wrinkle cream with retinol helps a little, but most other lotions seem too greasy for me. Eucerin's face moisturizer with sunscreen (30 spf or maybe 45) was the least bad of all the ones I tried this summer. I'm sure the heavy sunscreen I use on weekends contributes to the problem, but I'd rather have zits than severe sunburn and skin cancer.

Neutrogena Oil-free moisturizer makes my eyes sting even when I don't put it anywhere near my eyes. And I find it's too greasy, regardless of its oil-free-ness.

That's me. Lately it's been Alba Botanical Sport, SPF 32. I use it daily on my face, no matter if I'm riding or not. I used to wear a different moisturizer for my face, but the current stuff seems to cover all the bases.

another vote for Neutrogena dry touch sunblock. It says it's for face, spf 60 but I use it all over the arms and legs too.

Either way, the best way is to reapply sunscreen often. I usually go to the cosmetic counter and try and get free samples so I can tug them in the seat pouch. I've used some over the counter brands sunblocks too but I find them expensive and since Neutrogena works well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'll just stay with that one.
