What kind of music do you cycle to?

I can only cycle to relaxing music, otherwise loud harsh music just makes my head hurt and its also dangerous because you cant hear your surroundings in case of emergencies. My fave is R&B music, especially Chico Debarge because his stuff is soothing but not to the point where you just wanna pull to the side of the road and take a long nap. He's been around for a while, but I'm really likin his newest single "Oh No" here. Dunno when it came out but I'm pretty sure just this year...what do you guys think? I can turn the volume down low and still hear the beat when Im cycling which is perfect!

not allowed to cycle with an iPod or a mp3 player... but i wouldn't even if i could... I just love the sound of the outdoors.

I listen to music when on the trainer (or in gym).

I like rock and other fast stuff.

Use Matrix soundtrack(s), Joan Jett, Sass Jordan, Bond (rocked out classical), a little George Thorogood (sp), some of the soundtracks from the show Alias get the cadence up. A bunch of other stuff...

I sometimes pop in one ear bud when I'm riding distance. While I love the sounds of nature, I sometimes what a bit of music - but I don't listen loud and can hear traffic, other cyclists, etc, just fine.

Lately my artist of choice had been Jackie Greene - he's an up and coming blues/jazz/rock/whatever musician. I just love his voice.

I do have a rather eclectic taste in music, though, so it's not unusual for my play list to include to also include, Diana Krall, Billy Joel, Queen, Frank Sinatra, sound tracks from Broadway, and Jimmy Buffett to name a few.

Me too.
i like to hear hybrid cars or dogs sneaking up behind me, but I also like to hear the crickets and birds and the sound of children playing too...that's my 'music'. My favorite music of all is riding past a dry rustling corn field or a babbling brook or frogs twanging in a swampy pond. Such a delight!

i normally only plug one earphone in...my playlist includes patti smith, juliette lewis and the licks, fiest, saul williams, pj harvey, poe, portishead, santagold, eva trout, nina simone, gnarls barkley, the yeah, yeah, yeahs and citizen cope.. grit and angst...what gets me in trouble is when i'm inspired to sing at the top of my lungs and temporary forget where i am...

While normally I don't listen to music when cycling, my biggest guilty pleasure while working out is JT (Justin Timberlake for those of you who don't know!)

Frequently don't have much to listen to while riding except bus and truck engines, but have seen 3, yes three NASTY accidents that the cyclists could have avoided if NOT wearing earphones....first one was the ear phone falling out of the ear and getting caught in the wheel and you can imagine that at 40k an hour....second one, truck coming from behind and rider to far out to the left didn't hear it and didn't get to the side line...and three, rider going down hill and didn't hear other rider shout they were passing...(the third only had ONE ear phone in, but was so involved in the music that wasn't paying attention.
I really think that listening to the sounds of the world help keep me alert and concentrated on the riding...when I swim or run, fine, zone out.
