Iron Girl on TV - way cool

It was cool how they gave it the Ironman treatment with all the pro stuff and the back story, but focused on a lot more regular people. Apparently the race is 75% "new to the sport" (I don't know if that means first-timers, or just people who have few years of racing, or what). There were 5-6 pro women, including Michellie Jones, but it was mostly us mere mortals. People wading into the water at the start of the swim, people dawdling in transition, people having a damn good time. Even the pros said the race (especially being all-women) just has a different feel - more about fun, less pressure at the start.

So, even though this race was a while back, it's so awesome to see on TV. Way to go REGULAR WOMEN!!! WOO

Cool! I'm sure it was neat to see "regular" women out there having a good time and enjoying themselves. I wish it were on t.v. here.

It was on NBC after the Michael Phelps-a-thon (personally I think Ryan Lochte's new shaggy haired look is nice, but his gold teeth "grillz" I could do without) and before the golf-a-thon - 11AM here. Maybe they'll re-show it

Showing regular women means more women will think "I can do it".

If all people see on TV are these human specimens that represent triathletes... they think "Never me- I don't look like THAT!"

It's great when they show regular people they can do it too.

At my last tri... a volunteer who said she couldn't even run a step- said she wanted to try the tri for 2010. It was so nice to here!

My Mom watched it. I was out riding my bike but she called and told me it was on.

Ironman (and the Ironman TV coverage) seems to be so male-focused, too, so it's really nice to see the ladies get lots of time on the screen. That they are regular ladies is even better.

I couldn't find it in my Tivo TV listings for the next 2 weeks.
