    June 23rd rides

Since ihad today off and was feeling (had an emergency root canal yesterday), I decided to see what the Santa Ana River Trail was like on a weekday
I went by the Honda Center (home of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks) and Angels Stadium)

Thought this was an interesting shot:

The beach at last! The dentist called and asked how I was doing . I told him I felt great!

They call The Santa Ana river trail a freeway for bikes (pardon my nail)

Took another photo of Angels Stadium after the morning fog had burnt off:

I was going to do a metric, but I felt a little peaked, so I "only" did 44 miles

Glad to hear you're doing OK after your root canal :-)

It was supposed to be 96 degrees (90% humidity) and a heat index of 110 today. SO I bought a new camelbak for the ride today--LOVED IT! On the trail by 6:30 am (I'll get up EARLIER tomorrow) and in by 8:00 am. Driving home the temp hit 90

The walkers kept telling us, "be careful out here." Don't they know we have a breeze? I should be worried about them!

The best laid plans....planned on doing 75 miles today, starting early (and by early, I mean 7am) so that I get some time in the heat (acclimating for HHH). Wound up working off duty because my favorite sgt. begged (well, asked strongly) and was totally stuck. I sat at this rail road crossing that Union Pacific was working on and stopped traffic any time a piece of machinery went by. I told myself I would get 35 miles in at 1pm, hot, yes, but doable. At 2 I was still working. Finally got off at 3 and went and ran 3 miles and did my lifting, arms, back, abs. So NO ride!! And running was a slog. It was 101 degrees. I did the sunny part first, the second half, though uphill, was in the shade. I ran across one of the SWAT guys, they had SWAT practice this morning, when I asked how it was he said, "HOT." So I pictured running in Kevlar, BDUs, boots, with guns. That made me feel better.

72 kms.-- lst 42 kms. was my usual early morning ride. Then near supper time, we met up with some other cyclists to ride at a bike route with a new path extension that will be officially opened up with a celebration this Saturday. Will be leading other interested locals to become familiar with this new route extension.

So 30 kms. with stop near end as guests for homemade rhubarb-strawberry crisp and tea at sunset.

(((fredwina))) sorry about the root canal *ouch*

I didnt ride yesterday because I had acupuncture after work but I did go to group ride on Monday. I was pleased that I rode so well after feeling flat all last week. Riding in a group and going at a good clip sure keeps the wind moving and the heat is not as bad. I think that helped quite a bit cause the 109 heat index on open roads with no shade was just oppressive when I rode solo.

The kid that rode the century with me last year pulled the last third very impressively. I told him that but he laughed and said he didnt think it would be long before I was whooping him again. LOL

I met up with the only girl on my high school cycling team and we rode 15 miles around forest park and then went over to Crepes etc for gelato! I had a small scoop of their lemon sorbet and a scoop of their raspberry lime!!! So divine.

Even though we rode at 6 pm it was still miserably hot and humid. I didn't have any more bike in me!
