    6/19 Rides

It is hot here in North Texas, and so rather than get some mileage on the road bike, I opted for the shade of the trail on the MTB. An officer friend and I met at the trailhead...no other cars in the lot! And that proved to be great, because the deer were out. It was AWESOME. My friend is a capable but much slower rider than I am, so I would ride out in front and stop and wait for him from time to time. As a result, I rode up on a mother deer and her fawn...they were remarkably unafraid of me, let me ride up to about 10 feet from them before walking on into the underbrush. I saw Mom again on the way back, I bet baby was taking a nap.
The trail was great and my legs fresh, no falls today (always a good day) and I found a nice shell/rock for my SO (who collects rocks)....if I am riding with him, I am usually trying to breathe and keep up, if I ride with my officer friend, I have time to scan the rocks for cool things.
I wish I had had a camera with me.

It is very hot here in texas and its only JUNE! SInce I had the day off this morning I had planned to leave out about 7 this morning but that didn't happen. I did make it around 8. I did a 28-30 mile trip up and down the hill around my house. It took me longer then expected but I told my father-in-law if he didn't see my by 11am to come looking for me. I stopped and made friends with several dogs along my route and stopped at the little store about 5 miles from the end of my journey. I stayed there about 15-20 min talking to the clerk. If I wanted to stop I did.... if I wanted to move along a little faster I did that too.

This was the longest trip I have made on my new bike and it had a few "kinks" to work out. My speedometer was working part of the time but I think I got that fixed. The derailers needed some fine tuning as did the brakes. She rides like a dream now!!!!

With my old bike about mile 10 my saddle would start bothering me but with the new bike and saddle I made it at least 25 before any issues. Thats a HUGE improvment.

    Tina
