    I Rode In Freezing Rain!!!

Guess what? I conquered my fear that I might melt, if I rode in bad weather.
Im a bit frail but nothing stops me.
I needed green apples in the worst way( confirmed addict) so after 7 hours of standing on my feet ,moving large objects around( I am visual merchandiser), I decided that I had a hour to ride to shops( its 5 km away) and back before dark. It was about 5o.
So I put on two pairs of longs, two merino jumpers, a merino singlet, a cycling jacket and a puffa vest. Also some merino sox and booties, fleece hat and gloves.
I ride to shops, no problemo, quite cold and clouds brewing like coffee.
I get out of shops and its sleeting. So Im riding home, as fast as I can( which isnt as fast as id like, as Chronic fatigue means you can not exert yourself totally or your stuffed for like a month), to prevent the sleeting rain from soaking in from top layers( forgot rain jacket), to meet the sweat soaking in from lower layers( which seemed to me, would be the instant I contracted pneumonia!). Its so rainy that I cant see too welland face is cold and wet,
But made it home, before critical mass and if it wasnt 6o below, I would do it again!!( But , sadly mass ratio of clothes to outside weather has reached maximum density, so I cant really put enough on to beat the chill.
Oh if only I could be like those Assos ads, where to cycle in Switzerland ( or wherever) one is kitted out only on 3/4 knicks, a cap, a merino jumper, gloves and cycling jacket!!
Conquering illness, one step at time.

So, would you do it again?

    Well done!

I reckon riding in the rain is one of those funny things. If it rains on you while you're out riding and you are already warm and/or you're dressed OK for it, then it seems to be fine.

But somehow I lack the inclination to look out at it raining cats and dogs (or even when it's raining lightly) and say "Self...I think I should get on my bike and go for a ride!"

I have a friend who is fond of saying "There is no such thing as bad cycling weather! There are only poor clothing choices!" He's NUTS!

    Rain is one thing.

Sleet/freezing rain is other. Sounds like you didn't have much of a choice, though. Glad you made it home ok.

Just find a wind and waterproof vest and some neoprene gloves and booties, and you'll be set for next time.

Some people just love to clean their bikes. Or don't mind prematurely wearing out their drivetrains.

    You did that for apples?!?

I'm impressed that you cycled through the sleet. I don't think I would have done that for Ben& Jerry's.

    Thumbs up Good job!

(I love hearing about Austrailia and the opposite season.)

I found, while commuting last winter that 5o (celsius)/40F was about the coldest that I could handle. Sleet/rain makes it that much colder. I salute you on your strength!

I soooo understand that, not the rain but the need for something.

I would do the same for beetroot, natural yogurt or a tin of sardines. A couple of years ago it would have been for chocolate, now that's normal.

"I'm a bit frail but nothing stops me". See, reading stuff like that pushes me lots.

Soon you will able to tell us about the scorching hot sun out there, making me especially envious.
