City of Austin buys bikes for employee use

The City of Austin announced Thursday it has purchased bicycles for city employees to use “for business needs, such as going to meetings, lunch or other activities.”

According to a release, the bicycles will be available to city employees at locations around Central Austin. The bicycles are intended to help the city reduce its carbon emissions, as dictated by the city’s Climate Protection Plan.

The release did not say how much the bikes cost or how many the city purchased. We’ll track that down.
