Talking New mtn bike in my future!!!!

Think I might buy a mountain bike today. Sweet deal, FATE really. Long story, but I've tried about 8 mountain bikes out now, and rode a friend of a friend's yesterday. LOVED it. Asked her about it -- she says, "Oh yeah, that's my favorite bike. It's my Santa Cruz -- paid $$$$$ for it last year." I almost cry, b/c it's the best bike I've been on (for me, anyway!) and this is WAY out of my budgeted range.

Dejected, I go to the gym and shower. I'm driving by the local bike shop, and something says "stop and see what they have". OK... nothing else to do for the next couple hours.

I tell the nice man at LBS what I liked and didn't. He says, "do you know what kind of Santa Cruz?". I say, Juliana. It's a women's specific. He grins. Hauls me around the corner... "like this?". EXACTLY.
"Well, the lady up front bought it a year ago, and didn't ride it mountain biking -- instead was trying to keep up with her sister road biking. She gave up and it sat for several months untouched. The brakes aren't even to the point of being broken in yet. Not a mark on her! So today the woman brought it today to trade in on that Ruby over there. She's just checking out."

Hmmm... how much would that be? He says, I paid her $$$, but I'll let you have it for $$$ (note... 1/2 the new price a year ago!!!!).
I had to resist every thing to say "SOLD!"

Instead, I rode another 6 bikes including that one. Still absolutely love that Santa Cruz.
Thought about it over night. I'll kick myself if I don't go back.
Stopped by this am, left a note for LBS owner -- "How about $$$ since I paid FULL price and didn't dicker for a discount on my road bike two years ago and buy all my parts here?"

WAiting for the call back... MAYBE IT'S MINE!!!!!!!

    YIPPEEE!!!!!
    Here she is!!!!!

I have a friend here in Oz with the exact same bike and she loves it! I had a ride on it when I was trying to work out whether I should go to dual suspension and I really enjoyed it. I understand completely why you are so in love with it.

For me the Specialized Era Marathon was just a little more my type of ride, and there aren't exactly Juliana's falling off the shelves over here, but it would have been a serious contender if here had been!

Hope you get your Juliana and enjoy it!

Oooh NICE! I never used to like pink you know but now I'm wondering how I can get me a nice pink roadie instead of my black one to join my two pink MTBs! Only the tandem wouldn't be pink then!!! But I COULD paint it!

I'm told pink is the new black!

Two words... Orbea Diva. For the record I have no pink bikes but I do drool on them in the shop from time to time. Funny thing is I could not stand pink until I was about 18-19. When I was a kid I only wanted to wear blue and purple. I still love purple but some of the new pink bikes are gorgeous!

Congrats! I just ordered a Gary Fisher HiFi Deluxe GS (I think that's right...loved the 2008 model's suspension that I test rode)! And as my name suggests, she's black and pink .

I did test ride the 2008 Specialized Safire! Great bike, but that paint job wasn't right for me...just something about it . The suspension on the Gary had a much better feeling to me as well. I had fun jumping off the curbs in the parking lot (in 26 degree weather, mind you...got a lot of stares, lol)

Anyhoo...I'm so happy you got the bike for the price you wanted! Here's to many fun (and dirty) miles!!!

    She's Here!

Here's a couple pics in the bad lighting of our dining room. The seat post is temporary. They're letting me try everything out and then we will make a decision about the Thompson (angled back), or a more straight up seat post and then move the handle bars out or up a bit. We are playing with the fit. He says that in reality, moving up to the next size may have been easier, as I'm right between the two sizes. But, then again, the next size up wasn't half price!

    Names, anyone?

PINK DIVA: Congrats on ordering the Gary Fisher.... excellent on the black and pink! Can't wait to see photos! Enjoy!
