    Isn't it the same as saddle soap?

    Proofide is wax based (with some oil) so it seals the leather.
    Saddle soap is oil based and has some cleaner (surfactant).

    How 'bout snoseal? I seem to recall another credible source said that was OK...

    ewwww, I wouldn't put Snoseal on anything but shoes, and definitely not on a saddle. It's so gummy and yucky.

    ETA: Snoseal specifically does say that it's made to "lubricate without softening," so it sounds like it would be safe, if you don't mind the texture.

    Ingredients: Tallow, Cod oil, Vegetable Oil, Parrafin wax, Beeswax, Citronella oil.

    Sno-Seal ingredients
