    Dec. 15 Rides (or non-rides)

    It's SNOWING!!!

Hallelujah! We need snow so badly here. I'm very excited. Hopefully I'll be skiing any day now. I can't wait!

Unfortunately this has been a non-ride weekend for me because of the weather. I did 30 minutes each day on the torture machine...oh, I mean the trainer. I just hate that thing. I hooked my old wired computer to the back wheel so I could see how far/fast I'm going. I was a little disappointed with what I found out...a lot slower and less miles than I thought it would be! Which is amazing because I get so tired out on the dumb thing.

I went out for an hour in the cold, windy rain.

A very big thumbs up for my Castelli rain jacket, Joneswear thick wool tights, and my trusty Pokey with fenders. I stayed warm and reasonably dry.

(Meanwhile, Lee stayed home watching a Harry Potter movie we had recorded)

I rode!!!! I did about 24 miles. It was pretty nice out. I was alone and hadn't ridden for a few days, so I took it easy.

I was going to do my big hills, but when I got to the street where I turn to go down (which you gotta do before you can climb back up ), I had to get off my bike to cross a sheet of ice. I decided not to find out what a steep ice covered downhill fall feels like. Even though it was above freezing, the hills are steep, so the ice melts to a certain point, a puddle forms, then freezes again where the "sun don't shine". Glad I didn't learn this the hard way!

Tomorrow we're in for a treat--it's going to be around 50º! It hasn't been that warm in weeks! Of course, winds will be 20-30mph, but I'm not complaining.

I spent the weekend on the Texas Holiday Wine trail. Went to 17 wineries in the Texas Hill Country from Friday-Sunday. It was a lot of fun, a lot of wine. Some of them were boring and commercial but a lot you met the Vinter and owners. Those were cool plus most wineries have dogs, lots of loving given. It was really windy this weekend anyway and I hate 30 mph wind gusts when riding so it was a perfect weekend to do something else.

I took the furmonster and went for a run. It was cold, but the run warmed me up. We managed to avoid the rain, for which I was grateful!

Yep, FINALLY we have snow. As of this morning, we have a foot on the deck and it's still coming down. We'll have to use the snowshoes to walk the dogs.

I know I already posted in this thread, but since today is the 15th, and I rode!!! here I go again...

C_S and I were very excited for the warm weather today. I think it was in the mid 50s. It was so nice not to have 5 layers on. I just had 3, and wore regular fingerless gloves. I was perfectly dressed. That was nice!

What was kind of unexpected was how wet the roads were. I didn't hear it rain last night, but it must have. Can you say MUD?! Lesson learned... don't draft through puddles unless you're really hungry. My poor bike needed another bath! I needed one, too, and my teeth needed another brushing. Gross. C_S had just gotten her bike back from the shop, new cassette, chain and bar tape--all for naught! It was so shiny new. Now she has to buy a whole new bike

    36 miles for me.

I enjoyed my ride with redrhodie this morning despite the wet roads. Bikes can be cleaned easily enough, especially when it's warm out! It's just important to ride with your mouth closed or else you get some 'supplements' you really didn't want! I ended up with 41 miles.
