Diagnosed with compartment syndrome years ago while running track in high school. Competed in track and cross-country during college, but ice and special tape jobs for my feet and lower legs were my constant companions.
Ran marathons without any problems for a number of years after that; I suspect the slightly slower pace of non-race mode contributed to the easing of symptoms. Did not opt for surgery, although it certainly seemed the lesser of two evils at times. No longer run, due to a pelvic injury, so thank goodness there's cycling!!
