It is a totally veg soup. No one smidge of animal anything. Is it safe to eat? I am so bummed. I just realized my dh forgot to put it away last night.

oh, I hate doing that! I wouldn't worry too much. If it's got no cream or anything, it should be okay. Back in the day when fridges weren't used too much, they often left food out overnight. Just make sure to heat it up high when you eat *just*in*case*.
Failing that, what I sometimes do with dodgy food is I take activated charcoal after the meal. Helps absorb any toxins that may make you sick.
yep, boil it for a few minutes and then eat it.
It should be fine.
we've left meat out over night and survived that too.

I would definitely eat it. I figure the microwave kills everything. If it hadn't been left out, I'd probably eat it cold. Since it was left out, I'd probably cook it in some way first.
I also have a cast iron stomach.
sure no prob. it was boiled before, what's the weather out there? if it tastes fine, go for it.
It's a little secret you didn't know about us women. We're all closet Visigoths.

I'd re-boil it and chill it - but you can bet I'd eat it. Meat, I'm funnier about. That kind of thing - no sweat. And yeah - my DH has done that more than once.

Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
Our house is pretty cool and it is windy and chilly outside right now. I am glad you all think we should eat it. I have been waiting a whole week to make and eat this soup! it is so yummy with artichoke hearts, olives, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, saffron and Lemon juice. it is really yummy. I got the recipe from a moosewwods cook book.

Last time I forgot to put my dinner away the cats got it. There wasn't any salmon left by the time I remembered I needed to put it away. Well, at least I didn't have to worry about whether it was safe to eat! Oh, the cats are still alive even though I almost killed them.
Don't tell the others, but if in doubt, I offer it to them and wait 24 hours............kind of like secret agent mission meets science experiment.
SSSShhhhh now.............
ah, the cats as the sort of canary in the coal mine!
i was making chili for a work pot-luck on the 30th. i bought ground meat and then got home and relaxed, many hours later i realized that i never put it away. ended up going and buying more the next morning and making the chili before work. now, had it been just for me, i would have used it.but my big fear, making something for a crowd and making them all sick. i did end up using it to give my kitty fried ground beef. he's dying of cancer and is not eating much at all, but he cried at my feet when i was cooking it, turns out, he loves it!
the recipe sounds wonderful, can't wait for you to post it!
You too can help me fight cancer, and get a lovely cookbook for your very own! My team's cookbook is for sale Click here to order. Proceeds go to our team's fundraising for the Philly Livestrong Challenge!
Flybe, both cats and dogs can handle salmonella a lot better than we can. So if the cats can eat it and don't get sick doesn't mean we can, especially 24 hours later.
Having said that, americans tend to err on the side of caution. In Italy, I watch while friends and cousins leave meat out ALL night after cooking routinely.
