    Tune-Up?

Okay, forgive this stupid question, normally what does a tune-up consist of?

    Thanks, B

My shop has different levels. A basic is just adjusting and lubing and looking everything over. Last winter I got that plus new cables. They should go over everything and check for wear on consumable parts like brake pads, cables and chains. In September, I had one that was a basic that included new brake pads.

At the shop I work in, a basic tune-up includes brake and gear adjustments, wheel truing on the bike, chain clean and lube on the bike, tire inflation, frame cleaning. Parts are extra and extra labor charges may apply. The adjustment of all bearings will be check and corrected if necessary.

The deluxe tune-up includes removing wheels from the bike for truing in a stand and removing the chain for soaking and cleaning in a solvent tank. Parts are still extra but most labor will be included.

An overhaul usually refers to all of the above plus opening and repacking with grease all bearings - hubs, headset, bottom bracket.
Oil is good, grease is better.

One of my local LBS has their services broken down on their web site:

    Services

(I don't know if they are pricier than in other areas, but this particular shop focuses on high-end racing bikes.)
