    I got my 1st cyling-related complement today!

I just have to share this, because it made me feel really good about myself!

While on an amazing 50mi ride this morning on the north branch trail in Chicago, these two male cyclist came up behind me and indicated that they were going to pass, but then one decided against it and hung behind. The 3 of us rode along together for a while until we had to stop for traffic at a cross street. The guy who was behind me pulled up next to me and said, "wow, you're fast!!! You don't even have a speedometer - you were averaging 17-18mph! and you ride very smooth and straight, congratulations!"

I have only been riding for a few months, and I almost always ride alone so no one ever complements me on my cycling.

now i'm feeling really good about myself, and am pretty certain that i'll have a good metric century (my first) in 2 weeks.

I misread and saw "cycling-related component" so I thought this was going to end with you getting a speedometer

    Congratulations, how sweet!

CONGRATS! How nice of them to ride along side, instead of letting their male egos push by!

    Hey Chicagogal!
When I first joined TE last week, I wanted your screen-name, so it's only fitting that I actually get to write to you now!

Which Century are you riding? That's my training goal, too: The longer the ride, the happier I am!

If you ever want a riding partner, I would love to meet up. I have done the North Branch, too, and I have met some very nice people on the route, but it would be a pleasure to actually intentionally do the ride with someone. Now that I have a new Cannondale Synapse, I am sure I could keep up with you, too!

BTW, if you do look for a computer, get a Strada Wireless. It's so small and easy to install, and super convenient. I had one on my Road Warrior until Kozy's lost it for me. That's a whole other story, but I am still waiting for my replacement so I can guage my speed on the new Synapse. Nothing like crappy service at the closest LBS to my house.

Congrats on the great experience today!
There's only one thing better than spending a day on my bike: Spending a day on my bike in good company.

That is so nice. Congrats on riding so well in just a few months. You've inspired me.

    Hi SCurve,

I am riding in the north shore century, and have convinced a couple of my co-workers to ride too, so I am expecting it to be a lot of fun!

I would definitely enjoy riding with you. I usually ride on the lakefront path, especially on weekday mornings before work. When I have time for a longer ride, I go elsewhere, and love the north branch trail. It is so peaceful there. It always makes me feel like I have gotten out of the city, even when I haven't!

send me a PM if you want to make plans for a ride!!!

    PS.
I would love to be able to buy a computer for my bike, but am afraid I can't afford one right now . . .
