Off topic - "Secretaries Day"

If you have children in school, drop by the office today and say, "Thank you" to the school secretaries. They truly are the backbone of a school and are often overlooked. I know ours put up with a lot of cr*p from the public. They are the ones calling the parents at 8:30 to pick up the kids who are sent to school with fevers or vomiting, they do the lice checks, are the ones the parents yell at when their child is suspended for hitting, biting , kicking etc. They keep everyone organized from the principal on down.

It's not an easy job.

Agree with this. I made it a special point to tell the new grammer school principal that without the school secretary the school would fall apart! I've known her thru 3 principals and now my last kid has gone on to highschool so I don't deal with her at all. School secretaries are unsung heros.

Amen, Veronica. I frequently talk to our elementary school secretaries - the front office is a battlefield and they rarely get a break. They've told me they feel like they function as the secretaries for 52 bosses (the number of teachers and admin we have) instead of just the principal & assistant principal. School secretaries are usually underpaid (school budget constraints everywhere) and overexposed to stress and germs. Their bright spots are our thank yous (and gift certificates to Bakers Square don't hurt either )

At one time in the distant past, I worked as secretary for a tiny Colorado school for a few months. I agree, a smile, a thank-you, most anything like that is always appreciated.

I got out of that job as soon as the school year ended. It just wasn't for me. The best part was the drive to it. 'Most every day I saw antelope, deer, elk, buffalo and eagles. I still miss the drive, if not the job.

Yeah, I guess you could say they were playing. At least they weren't driving to work!
