My daughter's shower is next week and her sister and I are trying to think of something for everyone to do during the shower. I haven't been to a bridal shower for 20+ years. Anyone know what activities are popular now?

Are games necessary? Can't people just socialize?
Try www.theknot.com I'm pretty sure thats where the bridesmaid who threw my shower got her ideas from.
We played a couple games but mostly socialized. One "game" was who's brithday was closest to mine and another was who had known me the longest excluding my mother.
The last game-- she put 10 household items in a pillowcase (like a whisk, potholder, ice cream scoop, candle, etc) and you had umm 30 seconds I think to memorize what was in the bag. Everyone got a look, then you had something like 2 minutes to write down what you could remember. Person with the most items wins. I could be totally way off on all the timing thoughI don't really remember.
Every game had a little prize.
Good luck!

Me too. Especially hated to wear a paper plate hat with all the bows stuck to it. But then I'm probably dating myself...
I like one of the games I saw - I set up a bunch pics of Angie that everyone has to guess how old she is in each one. I have some pretty funny pictures....

How about everyone just preparing a nice meal together and then eating it?
Maybe watching some of those funny 1950's teen Hygiene Class movies on the 'Dangers of Petting'?![]()

Dangers of petting! That's so funny!
My aunts threw my shower and we played a few of the corny traditional games - smell the spices, purse treasure hunt, coming up with words from the happy couple's names, and the stupid clothespin game! That one was the worst. Basically you had three clothespins and if someone caught you crossing your legs they took them from you.
I would suggest the spice game. Just get a spice rack with spices, number the bottles, take off the labels and make everyone guess what they are, but of course, the bride gets to keep the spice rack in the end.
Also, if you have prizes for games, try and pick things the bride would use/want/need. In my family, it's super huge to give the game prizes back to the bride. I ended up with five candles because that was the prize for each game. I don't know how they didn't notice that.
Ohh, but my best shower thing was the quilt. My aunts picked out the fabric and got one of my cousins to piece it. At the shower, everyone took turns tying it. Between the shower and the wedding, it was bound around the edges. It was like the best thing ever!

Well, this might be educational. Like you kg, I haven't been to a bridal shower..well even longer..probably 1/4 of a century.
Since I live thousands of kms. away, I even missed out on my sister's bridal shower. She got married 2 yrs. ago..she's 39 now. An intelligent woman with her own home even prior to marriage...so she wouldn't have tolerated mindless bridal games.
Maybe a short interesting DVD movie to watch together instead..that's kinda of chick oriented.
What does your bride-daughter like to do with her friends?
You wouldn't believe how tolerant a bride has to be of things she couldn't care less about!!!!!
This being said, a "fun" game at my shower was that nobody could say a wedding-related word (dress, groom, bride, wedding, cake, whatever could be remotely related to the wedding) so it forced people to talk about other things. Everyone had a clothespin on their clothes, and if they were caught talking about something weddingy the pin was taken from them (and then they could talk wedding all they wanted to try to get others to lose their pin). Person ending with the most pins wins.
I'm glad you had a good time, I hope the wedding is wonderful with a new dress even prettier than the first one!
I played this at a baby shower and nearly got killed by the woman who was the clear leader. She mentioned the forbidden word and about ripped my face off when I busted her. It wasn't worth the scented candle or whatever "prize" they were offering. I was like "Oh, sorry. My mistake". She had really scary eyes!!!!![]()
