    It's Here!

Well, I got the warranty confirmation and a satisfactory discount, so I accepted the frame with the two touched up paint chips.

So, the newest addition to our stable:

And it's light - weighing in at 16.2 pounds:

Other pics that Silver thought were appropropriate of the components:

Bontrager RaceXLite 50/34 Crank and DuraAce Derailleur

DuraAce Rear Derailleur with my existing RaceXLite Wheels and Vittoria Corsa tires

Only problem is my left cleat won't lock in...so back to the LBS for more cleats tomorrow.

Gorgeous, Mr. S! Congratulations! May you share many happy miles together.

For some reason I didn't realize the 5.5 came with a compact crank - I just assumed a standard double.

Gorgeous bike, Mr. S. You must be so excited!!!

Hey you are really looking UBER SLEEK these days! I remember some of your older photos and what a difference. I got a kick out of reading your early weight loss blog entries.....all those South Beach diet bars! I'm guessing you have improved in the nutrition dept. since then. No more egg whites with VELVEETA, hhmmmmmm?

    Lovely bike.

Thanks Lisa. I feel great ttt!

I'm not losing weight, but I'm losing inches. I'm eating 7 meals a day to fuel my rides, but in the fall, I'm confident that I'll kick in weight loss again. Today I'm at 165...next July I want to be 152 (Remember...I'm only 5'7"ish)

VERY NICE! You'll need to PM me the details. Bike looks great - wheels are a perfect match. Now what cages, and some red bar tape :-)

Let us know how it rides!

What a beautiful bike... I am a big fan of the Madone... AND it even matches your RoadID!

Now you just need a red/black/white jersey...

I wish you many happy miles together!

    tygab: It's a '08 Madone 5.5. I had a few dilemmas:
    • Get it or not? Fearing a huge '09 price increase, I did
    • Where to get it? We have two LBS's that we're loyal to
    • Get the 5.2 or 5.5? The 5.2 is not available in my short size...would it become available? maybe...but if it doesn't, it puts me back in the price increase dilemma...
    • When it arrived yesterday, it had two chips in the paint...should I get them to send a new frame or get a discount? I chose the discount...so between an LBS sale event and the discount, my cost is closer to a 5.2 priceand this makes Mr. Silver a very happy boy

Congrats on the new ride and your weight loss! And it's always nice when a new purchase is validated by an increased performance (did the bike make you go faster, or did you just ride better because you were happy to have a new bike?) Wishing you many happy miles!

Here's the way I looked at it:

First, I was surprised that my LeMond only weighed 19.4 pounds (combined with me at 165 pounds...184.4 pounds). The Trek is 16.2 pounds so I gained about 1.7% combined weight reduction. I previously thought it weighted 21 pounds...hmmm

So, I suspect that 1.7% is weight reduction (how's that for a dieting incentive) and the balance is technology. I don't attribute any at all to me...I was actually apprehensive setting out on this ride because I was so satisfied with my LeMond Reno...
