    new tube..still leaking

My rear wheel went flat. I examined it, screwed down the valve, pumped it up and it held air better...But just to be sure I had a guy at my LBS look at it. He put in a new tube.
I got it back and it was fine...but next morning it was flat again...

I was just about to go on a ride...so I filled it just to see. I fiddled with the valve and the tire was great for all 22 miles.

This morning..I think it lost a little air. I wonder if it could be that the cap has a defect that is pressing on the valve???

    Any ideas?

Remove the cap and see what happens. The caps really aren't necessary if you close the valve. That said, if the valve is tightly closed, the cap is unlikely to be the problem. Have you (carefully) run your hand around your tire to make sure you don't have something embedded in it that's puncturing your tubes? Also keep in mind that tubes naturally leak air over time even when nothing's wrong with them. That's why you have to pump them up again before every ride or every other ride.

What kind of valve (presta or schrader)? Could be the cap - I agree there's no harm in leaving it off. I'm sure you're already doing this - but if it's a presta, make sure you're screwing the little lock down all the way.

Yep, pretty much. I have noticed differences in various brands of tubes

I lose about 10 lbs a day in a 110 psi tire with presta valves. It seems to drop off after a while (i.e. you lose less). I just rode my cross check for the first time in a while - at least a month- (been riding other bikes) and the tires were still at ~60 psi.
