    Cycling advocacy-hinterland vs. big cities

I am vacationing in Kelownagirl's neck of the woods right now. A cycling advocacy meeting that I attended before I sneaked off to visit a winery and another.

It is always interesting to learn what is happening in other local areas outside of bigger cities. Incredible things do happen in areas where there are less cyclists...if there is big energy and committment.

Certainly this meeting re-energized people there to enough and gave some new ideas ..to go back to home..
It is also stunning to learn how different regions of a province strategize and negotiate...on million dollar projects locally. You wouldn't believe....what can and does happen when effective partnerships are formed with rail companies, politicians, etc.

So Kelownagirl, your community has a (small) group of people who care deeply to make cycling facilities/routes better in Okanagan Valley area. The Myra Canyon celebration of rebuilding the burned down rail trail trestle bridge looks very creative for next weekend. Their presentation today was inspiring (to music)...the phoenix of a famous bridge rising from the ashes. Too bad we won't be at the celebration next weekend, KG. It looks like a serious big WOW festivities. The community will be very proud when the event happens. wishing you all great weather next weekend.
