    Red face my first fall

I had my first fall on my mountain bike yesterday. I was riding with my husband and did not gear down quick enough as I went up a hill and around a curve. I lost my momentum and off I went. I had the sense about me to let go of my precious bike. Thank God I landed in a ditch that was full of leaves. As my head popped back and struck a rock my first thought was thank heavens I am wearing a helmet. I have a rather bad bruise to my rib and to my leg and a pump knot on my head. My helmet? It had a ding. I am here to tell you I will never ride without it. Got to go ride.

Glad you're ok! It always freaks me out when I have a close call on my mtb. I'm not usually a risk-taker in life, but, for some reason, the mountain bike keeps calling me back, fall after fall. My co-workers and Drs always offer to listen if "I need to talk." I always insist that I'm in a healthy and loving relationship, it's just my relationship with the bike that's slightly abusive

That reminds me of when I used to crew on a Highlander sailboat (20 foot one-design sloop) - those boats were notorious. After a race weekend I'd come to aerobics class looking like someone had been beating me with sticks, all over.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that about the helmet. I got out tonight and rode five miles. I am sore and a little stiff, but I figured I had better get back to it. LOL! The folks at work tomorrow are going to have a field day with this. One of my bruises I will not be able to hide and nurses are just a suspicious bunch. You know that RN really stands for "Real Nosy."

Glad you're okay! Hope your bruises heal up soon!

Please replace that helmet - they're only made to take one impact.
