Run to the Hills: Week of May 25th Runs

Taking advantage of the lull at work to post (don't know where time has gone lately). Running still going well, my big trail race is on Saturday 31st (hence the thread title), wibble wibble.

I am in a taper type week this week though I did our Clubs 10 mile road race on Sunday 25th. It was quite enjoyable even if it was all tarmac! I have blogged about the race so I won't bore you with the details of it here.

I finally have started the blog of my training I have been meaning too for ages as OH is away in Oz for the next few weeks and the time difference is making things difficult regarding phone calls, think he just wants to check I'm not overdoing it. I was also writing more and more in the notes section of my online training log which was starting to look silly, I'll keep the log for the hard facts from now on.

Only three miles tonight, no hills/trails and slowly (are you listening self?), then a short MTB ride tomorrow night (again are you listening self?) then rest Thursday and Friday.

    Happy Running everyone.

I ran a 10k this weekend. I finished with a time of 55:47 which comes out to average 8:58/mile---I am so thrilled! This is my first 10k where I ran under 9 minute miles AND I finished 47 out of a 117 women in my age group. It marks the first time in a race of this size that I finished in the top 50%

I posted a race report on my new blog (finally jumping on the band wagon).

Today I am going to do an easy 4 mile run through the 'hood, all flat and no hills. It should be enjoyable.

    Limewave, that is incredible!!!

One of these days I will be faster. It's getting there. Kinda.

Last night I did a 9 mile or 90 minute run, whatever came first. It was difficult and not difficult. It felt good though by the end I was tired! I was able to do 8.2 miles in 90 minutes. Keeping in mind that I crossed streets (had to wait a few seconds for cars sometimes) and go up and down a few flights of stairs, I'm not THAT disappointed by it. I also had worked all day too...

Anyway when I got home, I don't believe I've ever been so sweaty in my whole life. My hair was dripping so much I thought it was rain It's all good.

My half-mary is on Saturday. I know I won't do the time I initially thought I'd do (somehow last year I thought I could get to under 2 hours) but I think I'll do ok and I know I'll have fun. It's to the point that even if I'm tired, I just keep going and it feels good in a really fatigued/painful/wonderful way.

    Lime that's awesome!!

Teigyr - you'll do great. It doesn't matter what happens... it's a PR and you've already won because you put in all the work to get you here. I'm proud of you.

eek - double brick with the club today.

that's 25min bike /10 min run and the same over again. I was riding 30-32 all the time but had no chance against the guys, and the iron girls/marathoners. Oh well.

I am satisfied for being able to handle my bike, and run off it. I'll still suck this year at my races compared to these uber-athletes, but I'll suck less.

Yes. I think I can call it running again. yay. No more tiptoeing.

4.5 around the neighborhood by my gym, before class. Da-yum those are steep hills. Felt good though, even though I'm sore everywhere from digging in the garden yesterday. (hooray! finally enough dry weather that I could do that! and rain as soon as I got my plants in the ground! )

Thank you Wahine It's not like I couldn't have done it without your inspiration, encouragement, and help.

Yesterday I ran for an hour and it felt like I was going incredibly slow. I was actually 15 seconds/mile faster than my fastest time! Keep in mind THAT is slow...but it's getting there.

Saturday is the half-mary. We fly down to Oakland tomorrow and will get situated in Alameda. On Saturday, after the race, we are going to go to Alcatraz. Go figure, all the years I lived in Calif and I never did the San Francisco tourist thing.

It's funny. I alternate between thoughts of "I am not ready for this" to "of course I can do it and what's the worst that can happen, I walk a bit?" to "I just want to finish and feel good about it" to finally "just HOW many people are in my age group and how well do I think I can do?" The last thought is just wishful thinking. The truth is I want to do ok but the main thing is to enjoy it, feel good while I'm doing it (except for those periodic times when I doubt my sanity but that's a good thing) and feel tired but good after. I truly think this will be a fun experience

    Good luck Teigyr!

I did another 4km at school today. It was too hot to run at noon. I guess I'll need to start getting up early and running in the morning.

    Good luck, teigyr!!

You're not alone in your thoughts... while I'm "average" and by no means fast, I still think "I wonder how well I'll do compared to others?" I know I can't win, but I can still be a little competitive, right? My local paper lists local finishers of local races and I am always near the bottom (apparently a running town), but hey, slowly climbing up. After we read the local results for a big 12k road race, my dad said "you almost made it to the top 25 female finishers!" Too bad it's not like roller derby, I could probably take some of them out.......

My trail race is tomorrow, its just under 15 miles so a bit longer than a half but I'll be feeling your pain (a good few hours before you). Is it a hilly half then ? I've been to SF and the hills were pretty awesome, I'll be thinking of you as I slog my way up the big climb on my race.

I can recommend the audio tour thingy at Alcatraz, OH and I did it when we visited and it really immersed you in the place, those cells are tiny!

    Good Luck teigyr

    good luck teigyr!

I ran yesterday, 3.5 mile hill route at work. Bike later that day and this a.m. and my legs feel D E A D.

I think my body's telling me it's time for a bit of a rest week. This weekend I'll probably do one more run and then a long bike. Unfortunately, no (running) rest weeks for me in the next few weeks, because I only have 3 weeks to build up the mileage I need for the tri in June. The injury has set me back, I'd like to ideally have built up to a higher mileage than I need for the race, as it is I'm just squeaking by. After the tri, though I get a chance to take a break before going back to ramping up my mileage.

    K.
