First Race of the season...Holy Cow!

    Hi Guys,
I have not been posting much lately. I have really been in a funk with my recovery from my knee injury. I was very close about two weeks ago to throwing in the towel. Really, just enough already! But I have been really wanting to race. My first planned Xterra was last weekend, and I was not ready.

But......There was a sprint tri on Saturday, about an hour from my house. A road tri, Lord help me!!!! I thought is might be a good way to get myself back in the game. All week long, I have been going back and forth. Should I go, or not go. I weighed the pros and cons about a million times. They race was only an hour away, but with registration and gas, it would be pricey. I have not had my road bike very long. I have only done two brick workouts. I would have to go by myself. Blah, blah, blah.

In the end, my girlfriend talked me into it Friday night after my second glass of wine. I got up at 4:30 yesterday morning and got ready to go. Got a good luck kiss from the DH and took off. I got to the race venue with about an hour to spare and the place was packed. Now I have to tell you it is a vastly different scene than Xterra. Not as mellow. There were shaved men in the parking lot on their trainers warming up. What? You guys do know this is a sprint right? Yikes.

So I got myself registered and set up my transition. Looked around and said, well, you will be fine in the swim. You are gonna get smoked on the bike, and just survive the run. No pressure, just enjoy yourself.

I went off in the last swim wave with the old folks. Had a great swim. The water was cold, 62, but I like it like that. Passed lots of people from the wave before me. Got on my bike and took off, figured I would just get through it. I had a good ride. Avg 17.5 mph, passed people. Got through my transition and had a great run. Felt great. Ran a 25 min 5k.

Nothing hurt, I felt great the whole time.

    So the numbers are:
    1/4 mile swim 7:30
    12 mike bike 40 mins
    5k run 25 mins

1:19 First in my age group by 8 mins!!!!!! I think I could like this roadie thing...

I have a few sore muscles today, but other than that feeling good and much better mentally. I have a big mt bike race next w/e and I am going to get my butt whooped, so I am going to enjoy this win and remember it when I am suffering next Sunday!
