    Tour Shorts

My best friend and I are riding in a tour that covers 389 miles over the span of 6 days and are wondering if anyone had recommendations on which shorts would be GREAT to wear. Neither of us have ridden in a tour before and would love suggestions on what clothing is best to wear and to bring with.

I'll tell you; each of us is very different. I would suggest you do some longish rides before you do your tour in some of the shorts you already have and see which you like better. I have some Terry shorts that are my favs but they make several different styles.
I'll tell you one thing,if you are riding somewhere where the sun is VERY hot, you might consider shorts that are NOT black, i've seen people get heat rash from them. And btw, welcome to TE!

Howdy and welcome to TE!.....As mimitabby says, everybody has different ideas about what's comfortable in the way of shorts. Some folks prefer a lot of padding; others very little or none.

I did a week-long tour recently in temps in the low 90s and found that I actually preferred my Shebeest Shindiggers to my Shebeest Triple S Shorts. I like the fact that the Shindiggers cover my knees, but without any grippy elastic at the bottom. AND the longer length kept me from getting sunburned on my thighs and knees. The material is fairly light and the padding isn't thick---both of which suited me just fine. You can find them here on TE.........

Have fun on your trip! If you have the time and interest, please post a report on our new Touring thread. We're all ears for ideas for trips!

Thanks for the info guys!! I was looking at getting a pair of Pearl Izumi Women’s Sugar Short or the Pearl Izumi Women’s UltraSensor Breakaway Short Cut Short. However, the idea of not investing in black shorts is good because this tour is across ND and being that it is in August, it's going to be hot. Which, by the way the tour is the Candisc and is great for those who want to see the pretty/not flat part of ND through the badlands. Also, does anyone have any impute on good windbreakers. After all, being that wind is one of ND's best natural resources, it might be helpful to have one on the tour. Thanks.
