Crochet or crochet look bike gloves

Silly newb question. I see lots of ppl with these. Is there something about them that's better functioning than lycra, or is it a "look" thing?

I like how they look (and the weird checkered tan they give the backs of your hands ) plus I think those open spaces help to keep my hands cooler and more comfortable. Lycra gloves kinda make my hands feel like they're suffocating (probably just a mental thing there ).

Sometimes the old ways are good ways. I also find the crocheted gloves to feel cooler. They break in nicely, too.

Do they still make that kind of glove? To me they say "I am a responsible person. I can keep a pair of gloves for longer than 10 years without losing one." I mean when other people wear them.

One of my sisters bought me a pair as of a Christmas gift. She doesn't cycle.

But the gesture was appreciated...my lst reaction without saying anything ..was how "'1980s", it looked.

Well, now that you mention it, I see them mostly on older ppl in my club. Of course, I'm an older people too , but new.

Zen: I just feel I'm s'posed to know stuff like that. I have a rack on my road bike, but I didn't know I wasn't s'posed to.

    Who said?
If you want a rack on your bike you shall have a rack on your bike. And streamers if you're so inclined. And a pinwheel. And a bubble machine.

On TOSRV this past weekend there was a group of college men with iridescent streamers on their fancy carbon bikes. Just after they'd passed me (and a rather large group of bikes), a streamer fell off one of the bikes. The kid just had to stop and get it. There was a lot of (bicycle) traffic and I don't know long it took him to get back to the streamer, but it was at least 20 minutes before the group caught back up to me - the streamer that had fallen off was jammed in the kid's jersey pocket

Anyone know if there are women's crochet gloves out there? Men's gloves never fit me. They always end up too long- the Velcro wraps around my wristbone.

I like the old school look.
