Look Keo?

Does anybody use these? I tried a search, but it didn't come up with anything.

Anyway, I used Look pedals for about 15 years, and was satisfied. Last summer my DH got new Time pedals, and I took his relatively unused SPD road pedals from his TT bike. Smaller and lighter than my old Look Carbo Pro pedals that came on my 1992 Trek 2300. I don't remember - these are Nashbar or Performance brand, small platform, TI spindles (or Magnesium?). I don't seem to be able to find the right spot to clip in half the time. I thought maybe I was just so used to sticking my toe in the front of the Looks, that it was taking me a while to adjust. Well, I'm beginning season 2 with these, and sometimes I find the spot, and sometimes I just can't. I don't have any problems with the SPDs on my MTB - just these. Plus it seems like the cleats fit loose in the pedal or something (wobbly if I move my foot around). Considering they were cheap pedals (free to me), I'm ready to scrap them and go back to Look, or try something else.

Nashbar has some Look Keo Sprints on sale. Anybody have any experience with these?? Any reason to avoid them? I'm going to look around locally tomorrow, but I want to get input from you guys. I checked Roadbikereview.com, and found mixed reviews, mostly positive, but some mention of them snapping off. I know one local shop carries Speedplay (seem kind of expensive, except in the lowest end versions). I guess I want light weight, cost not much above $100 (the Keos appear to be $140, but are on sale for $110), and durability. Okay, and ease of use. I realize I can't have everything, but the Keos appear to be a good compromise.

I'd appreciate any and all input!

I just put Look carbons on my road bike. I love them. My husband has the look keo classics, for $100 bucks the weight is not much different and very easy to clip in and out of. Different cleats give different float degrees. A good choice I think. Heard mixed reviews about Speedplay, Sometimes too much float is bad and the cleats are unstable and weigh a ton. Hope that helps.

I have the Keo Classic also. Don't love them, don't hate them - they work fine for me. My first pair of clipless was a pair of Look-compatible Mavics circa about 1986. So when I got my new bike, it's just what I was used to. I actually was leaning toward Eggbeaters and they put them on for me in the shop, but I literally could not get my feet out of them. Good thing I tried them on the trainer!

I wonder if it's just the float that makes your SPDs feel "wobbly" to you. The original Look pedals were zero-float, which is still available. The cleats for the Keos incorporate float now; you can get three different cleats with 0, 4.5 degrees or (IIRC) 11 degrees. The pedals come with the intermediate, 4.5 degree cleats.

Oakleaf: Actually, I used the red Look Arc cleats (6 degrees?) for years, so I am used to float. The loose feeling with these SPDs isn't just that I can move my heel side to side - I feel like I can pull up slightly, and rock the whole foot around every which way. Not a huge amount, but it is definitely there. Not at all like the Shimano MTB ones I have. My friend has the same pedals, and doesn't have that going on.

Okay, so I was all set to order the Look Keos from Nashbar, but wanted to check locally first. Nobody had them, and shop #1 didn't seem to have anything I was interested in. Shop #2 (brand new - opened last week, owned by former managers of shop #1's satellite shop) had some Quattro SLs. A little heavier, but not bad, one of the owners uses them himself and loves them, and they will look gorgeous with my blue & silver Trek. And they were only $76 (marked $89.50, and looks like more online). I was waffling, since I had already made up my mind, and the $150 Keos for $110 sounded like a lot of bang for the buck. Fortunately DH was with me, and seemed to think it was a no-brainer (afterward, I have to agree). Now I just need the weather to improve (28 degrees, windy, snowing, ....).

My only complaint (haven't ridden them yet) is the packaging! What appeared to be a really cool, solid, hip-looking package turned out to be a totally un-reusable thick, sturdy plastic structure, with 2 cardboard boxes slid inside. Looks really nice. Planet-killing. The box doesn't open. Total throw-away item, never to disintegrate.
