Thom just made an adapter that will run off a Dyno hub to power small external speakers for an MP3 player. Music while you ride, but still maintaining the ability to hear traffic, powered by the rider. Cool stuff!

ooohsounds like an idea that should be patented, marketed, you can retire and live on an island and just ride your bikes (while listening to Cheeseburger in Paradise playing from the tandem)

Alas, it was not his idea, so that would be wrong.
He read about it on tandem@hobbes.
With the right adapter, it can also run my GPS, no more batteries for that either.

Can he design a mister for my xtracycle? We got a little warm today and people thought it would be nice to have a little sprinkler set up so that peole riding behind me could be gently sprayed from the gallon dispenser...
but so are can openers.

I think if I had to choose between Thom and a can opener - I'd take Thom. I just don't don't see the can opener driving me to long rides, doing SAG. Maybe the can opener would change its own tubes...It could open dinner, but could it cook it?
No can openers are not as handy as husbands (partners, significant others, or whatever word makes you happy.)

My husband is an intellectual who is NOT handy. However, he has been with me for 20 years, as of yesterday, and he has provided endless support for my cycling [SAGing, coming with me to rides & cheering me on, etc] & everything else in life.

Can openers can't reach the top shelf of my cupboards, or clean the top of the refrigerator. That's what my 6'7" husband is handy for. And making us a fine living, changing the oil in the lawnmower (doing it right now), and gazillions of other things that I can't live without!

May I remind people that Zen is usually writing on the ironic voice?
I am quite convinced her second message was a total joke.
